Hello Trojan Band Fans,

Once your child gets to high school (or sooner!) a great way to invest in their continued advancement is to get them a ‘step up’ instrument.  Step up instruments are a leg up from beginner instruments because the key work is more advanced (giving students more options as they play more difficult music), and the materials that make up the body of the instrument and it’s mechanisms are usually more sophisticated because they are meant for mature players and not needed to ‘weather the storm’ of the 6th grade year.  In short, they are built for tone, intonation, technique and musicality rather than just durability.  That being said…..it’s a GREAT idea to keep that beginner instrument for the marching field and use the ‘step up’ instrument in concert band and ‘indoor things.’

Please reach out to me if you have more questions or if I can answer questions you may have about instruments.  Another great resource that I HIGHLY recommend having this conversation with is your child’s private lesson teacher!  They may even ask to accompany you to the store at some point to play test instruments to make sure you purchase the best one.

There are a number of places you can purchase your instrument from reputable dealers and stores. Please reach out to a director or lesson teacher to get guidance!  CLICK HERE for a flyer from Strait Music on an upcoming sale they are having on step up instruments (link below)

Do not feel limited to this – it’s just another option for you and I didn’t want you to miss out on the opportunity!

Please reach out to us if you have any questions!
