Greetings!

Please note – the post below only affects WOODWIND and BRASS players – not percussion.  Percussion has a different assessment system with a visual component.  Percussionists please do not enroll for SmartMusic at this time.

This year we will be using an additional tool, SmartMusic,  to aid us with the passing off of marching music to ensure every student knows their music on and off the field.   Every student has a SmartMusic license that is provided as a part of their fair share fee and will have access with either their personal device or their school issued Chromebook.  This allows the student to achieve pass offs at their pace (and as some students would say without the pressure of playing in front of a director!) .  You can start attempting and working on your pass offs now – get it out of the way!

** Every student must subscribe to the class to receive assignments.  The pass off will be accessible as an assignment, and once school starts grades will also be tied to smart music so every student must be set up.** If you have problems connecting, email Ms. Gonzalez andrea.k.gonzalez@austinisd.org

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY MARCHING BAND SPOT?

Primary marching spots will be set on August 1 and 2 and will be based on a marching component and a music pass off component.  In setting spots band directors will look at your SmartMusic grades and attempts.  Student’s pass off grade as well as number of attempts if a pass off is not attained will be factored into who gets a primary spot.  To get it passed off, the student must earn a grade of 90 or better.
